Why this website?

It would be unreasonable to expect manufacturers like Roland to maintain on their website all documentation ever released on a particular product. Unfortunately, with equipment that is considered to be 'legacy', 'discontinued line' or whatever you want to call it, it may be difficult to find some information about the product or its accessories.

Such is the case with the Roland S-760 Digital Sampler. Eight years after its introduction, it has been superseded by models such as the Roland VP-9000, gear that is faster, bigger, more singing, more dancing. And yet, the S-760 was so well designed for a one unit rack module that it continues to be used to great effects by thousands of musicians worldwide, pros and amateurs alike.

Its popularity means that units are snapped up on the second-hand market. The recent price crashes madness is starting to halt as people realise that software samplers are great but hands-on hardware samplers are not too shabby either!

After years of using the excellent E-Mu EOS range, low prices tempted me into purchasing the S-760. I discovered a really sweet sounding sampler that is a great addition to my sound arsenal. As I was browsing the web to learn more about my new sampler, I discovered that there was very little information available, the core of which supplied by the Sgroup (see links), and nothing on the S-760 as such apart from excellent articles by Paul Wiffen in SoundOnSound (see docs).

So here is my contribution to the community of Roland S-760 users and would-be users. A simple website that I hope will answer questions, give pointers and generally help out whoever needs info on this wonderful sampler.
